An Alliance Fellowship · Stormwind
The Dissidents
“The greatest calamities are those that might have been prevented.”
An independent fellowship of adventurers, scholars, and seekers of forgotten knowledge. Where others sought glory in defeating great evils, these adventurers sought to prevent them from emerging.

Our Beliefs
Throughout Azeroth's troubled history, kingdoms have raised armies, heroes have answered calls to arms, and countless lives have been sacrificed to overcome threats already upon them. Yet for every darkness defeated, another seems to rise.
Knowledge, Not Power
The Dissidents seek knowledge not for power, wealth, or prestige, but for the protection of Azeroth.
Not every discovery proves significant. Many investigations lead to nothing more than another unanswered question.
Foreknowledge
Their work carries them into forgotten ruins, ancient libraries, abandoned tombs, and distant lands in pursuit of information that might reveal dangers yet to come.
The fellowship believes ignorance can be as dangerous as knowledge itself.
Preservation Before Destruction
Dangerous objects are not necessarily destroyed. Some are concealed, preserved, or carefully studied so their nature might be understood and similar threats recognized in the future.
Discretion
Such actions are not undertaken for personal gain. Discretion is valued, and unnecessary conflict is best avoided.
The fewer innocents drawn into dangerous affairs, the better.
The Chronicle
A Record of the Fellowship
Chapter I
Origins
The Dissidents began as a fellowship of like-minded adventurers who believed many of Azeroth's calamities might have been prevented had someone recognized the dangers beforehand.
An ancient tome forgotten in a ruined library, a forbidden relic buried beneath the earth, or knowledge waiting to be rediscovered by those who would misuse it. Such things might seem insignificant until they fall into the wrong hands.
Hidden near Stormwind's Dwarven District, the Safehouse serves as the fellowship's gathering place and repository of recovered knowledge. Here, members study discoveries, plan expeditions, exchange information, and enjoy the company of fellow adventurers. Recovered artifacts and forbidden writings are secured until their nature and potential dangers can be understood.
On rare occasions, The Dissidents seek assistance from Alliance authorities or surrender objects into their custody, though they generally prefer to safeguard their discoveries themselves.
Chapter II
The Name
The fellowship did not choose the name Dissidents. It was bestowed upon them by authorities in Stormwind, frustrated by their unconventional methods and unwillingness to blindly follow orders.
Though loyal to the Alliance, members have negotiated with the Horde for information, disregarded orders that hindered important investigations, and even allowed wanted enemies to escape in exchange for knowledge of dangerous relics.
Rather than protest the title, the fellowship embraced it.
To them, the name serves as a reminder that doing what is necessary and doing what is expected are not always the same.
Chapter III
Methods & Reputation
The Dissidents are neither knights bound by rigid codes nor soldiers sworn to unquestioning obedience.
Diplomacy is preferred, but deception, infiltration, theft, and dealings with questionable individuals are acceptable when circumstances warrant them. A dangerous relic held by an unwilling owner might quietly disappear, replaced by a convincing imitation to avoid suspicion.
Among common folk, The Dissidents are generally regarded as peculiar relic hunters and wandering scholars. Most know little of their true purpose. Stormwind's guards are less charitable, often describing them as troublesome meddlers best avoided.
Despite their reputation, the fellowship supports the Alliance and frequently aids its people when doing so does not compromise its objectives. Ordinary citizens who possess useful information are approached discreetly, perhaps by a traveling adventurer offering payment. Once the information is obtained, they are generally left undisturbed.
Chapter IV
The Stewards
The Dissidents keep no officers and no hierarchy. What they have instead are stewards — members who have stood with the fellowship long enough to know how it runs, and who took it upon themselves to keep it running: the Safehouse, the Ledger, the calendar, the questions of newer members.
A steward holds no authority over anyone. Their word carries weight because it has been earned, and they are the ones others seek out when a recovered relic raises a question no single member can answer alone.
When dangerous relics or forbidden texts are recovered, the stewards are asked what they make of them, and the fellowship weighs that counsel together. Beyond this, every member is free to pursue their own investigations and adventures.
Chapter V
The Fellowship Today
The Dissidents continue to travel Azeroth, investigating rumors, recovering forgotten knowledge, and seeking threats before they become catastrophes.
Not every journey uncovers a terrible secret. Exploration, camaraderie, and the simple joy of discovery remain essential to the fellowship. They seek neither glory nor recognition, and their methods are not always understood.
But while others prepare to fight the next great darkness, The Dissidents endeavor to discover it before it rises.
